Sharing their love of the boating lifestyle in Sag Harbor, NY, Allied Marine Broker Eric Frank and his wife, Allied Marine Charter Broker Jessica Frank, bring you their Five Favorite Boat-Up Restaurants in The Hamptons:
5 – Claudio’s – This establishment has multiple dining options overlooking the harbor. Claudio’s on Main, Claudio’s Waterfront, and Crabby Jerry’s range from fine dining to casual takeout. Enjoy white-linen tablecloths at the first or a quick order of fried clams at the last. Claudio’s family of restaurants in Greenport has something for any group. Eric’s a big fan of the garlic steamed mussels and the local fish and chips, while Jessica prefers a whole baked lobster! Dockage in Greenport is relatively easy, even for larger superyachts.
Duryea’s Restaurant, Montauk
4 – Duryea’s Montauk – We love that this place celebrates summertime with seafood, wine, boats and sunshine! Originally a lobster shack, this waterfront restaurant has a dock you can easily pull your yacht up to. A large portion of the restaurant sits on the dock over the water, so the sea breeze is phenomenal. Greek-inspired ambiance with traditional Montauk seafood like lobster, crab, oysters and clams. Salads and roasted fresh veggies make ideal accompaniments! Large platters and towers are both impressive and delicious! Dishes are served family-style so it’s popular with larger groups. An adjacent market sells gourmet items to-go, as well as clothes, jewelry, and artwork.
3 – Sunset Beach, Shelter Island – Great for larger yachts, the anchorage in front of Crescent Beach allows for boats of any size to drop anchor and take the tender in-or just swim! The sandy beach and paddleboard rentals entertain the kids while the adults can relax with an adult beverage. This place has a fabulous European vibe and Mediterranean menu. Eric’s favorite dish here is the Paillard de Poulet, and Jessica loves the Salade Nicoise. It’s definitely celebrity hotspot, so you’ll want to look the part. And to really fit in, you’ll need to order a Magnum of Provence Rosé for the table.
Navy Beach Restaurant, Montauk
2 – Navy Beach, Montauk – Ideal for bigger yachts, anchor your vessel in Fort Pond Bay and tender in for a late lunch. Then just chill and enjoy the sunset, it is a great way to spend the day. You can eat outside at picnic tables in the sand, lounge on the oversized beds and sofas, and the servers will bring everything out to you. Inside, maritime signal flags are hung over the bar for a nautical theme, and there’s a considerable dining room. Montauk Watermelon Ale is a summertime must. Eric’s fave on the menu is the lobster roll and clam/corn chowder, and Jessica recommends the Grilled Avocado and Mexican Corn. The venue is very family-friendly, with oversized lawn games to keep everyone entertained.
1 – The Beacon – Located in the village of Sag Harbor, this marina-side restaurant sits directly above the Sag Harbor Cove Yacht Club. Views of the marina, the Bay and Shelter Island are the best in town. Most popular for golden hour, light from sunset dinners reaches back into the restaurant and bar and lights up the entire venue in brilliant shades of orange. But the food is the real reason for the Beacon’s loyal patrons-everything on the menu is perfect and has been for years! The Crispy Portobello with Smoked Mozzarella and the Tuna Tartare is our favorite to start. Eric almost always orders the Pork Chop Milanese or the Bone-In Ribeye with a dirty martini. Jessica is pretty consistent with the Local Fish Special. The Ruby Rita and the Sunburn Margarita cocktails are both amazing, or you can do what Jessica does and ask for the Sunburned Rita!
BONUS LISTING! (Because we couldn’t stop with just five) – SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill, Shelter Island – This restaurant has sun decks and and a boat dock, but is better for smaller boats. This is a casual restaurant with a kid’s menu and multiple outdoor dining setups, our personal favorite being the one that is shaped like a boat. Eric loves the porkbelly bao buns and Jessica loves that they serve sushi.
