Nanoose Bay, BC, CA
Made by luxury boatbuilder West Bay Shipyard in British Columbia with a dedication to performance, quality, and the pursuit of adventure. Leroy returned from a successful cruise to Alaska last season and has been prepared to circumnavigate Vancouver Island this summer but circumstances have changed that require Leroy to be sold.
With three cabins as well as crew quarters, fully serviced machinery, a high-capacity watermaker, four docking stations, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, stabilizers, and a hot tub, you can bring your provisions and head out on your adventure as soon as you're ready.
Operated for the last two years by a professional captain/engineer, this is a well-founded vessel with up-to-date maintenance that can take you on your next adventure in style and luxury.
The Boat
Impressive. Strong. Reliable are all adjectives describing the West Bay Sonship 78. It’s a timeless design that exudes elegance. Stepping on the expansive swim grid you enter the boat via starboard or port staircases into the vast, covered cockpit. Moving into the salon there is a large couch to port with dual seats to starboard and an integrated TV. Heading forward you go up to the large galley and into the pilothouse. Just aft of the well-laid-out helm station is a large dinette that, from its elevated position, offers unobstructed views for everyone through the pilothouse windows.
There is access to the command bridge just next to the galley through a watertight hatch. The command bridge has a large oval seating area with two captain chairs at the helm station. Aft of the covered space is a hot tub as well as storage for the tender and a crane.
Overall, there is lots of space for people to have privacy when they want it as well as entertaining and socializing in comfort.
Recent Upgrades and Maintenance
Accommodations
Space is a prevalent quality of the cabins on this vessel. The VIP cabin in the bow has a pedestal queen-sized bed and en-suite head with a standing shower stall. There are hanging lockers and drawers on both sides so everyone can have their space. Heading aft is the guest cabin with two single bunks and an adjoining day head. Along the centreline is the full-width owner's cabin with a king-sized bed, walk-in closet, en-suite head, full-height closet with shelves, standing lockers, drawers, and dedicated office space.
Also, accessed through the stern, before entering the engine room, is the crew cabin with an additional two single bunks with a full-sized head with a standing shower stall.
Galley
A large, well-equipped galley is comparable to many home kitchens. With full-sized appliances, a dual stainless-steel sink, fantastic storage, and plenty of counter space it’s a well-equipped space for preparing meals. Centrally located between the salon and pilothouse, it allows whoever is in the galley to be part of the action.
Power Plant
Twin, 1350 HP, MTU high-performance diesel engines have enough power to move this 78’ vessel to almost 30 Knots with a comfortable cruise speed of 20 knots at 1800 rpm. With electronic controls, fuel flow sensors, new pumps, and hydraulics, these engines will take you where you need to go.
In 2022 the current owners hired an MTU-certified technician to go through all the mechanical systems and provide recommendations. All deficiencies and recommended preventative maintenance were corrected, ensuring smooth and dependable operation of the main engines and both generators. This was in preparation for a trip to Alaska completed in 2023. All systems are functioning as expected and regular ongoing maintenance has been conducted.
